reality tv

Rockstartup Look! Up on YouTube! It's a TV show!  It's a Podcast!  No, it's a behind the scenes look at the founding and running of PayPerPost, which is a new-ish Web 2.0 company.  I know, some of you out there are saying, "Reality TV is bad enough on the Tube, why would I watch it online?"  but hear me out… after the jump. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can download a free trial Opera browser to activate the Internet Channel of the Wii Menu and begin surfing the Web. Link to NINTENDO press release

Studio 60 not going dark!

Studio60.jpgA+E Interactive: "Studio 60'' gets a full season

In what may be the best entertainment news I've heard recently, Aaron Sorkin's new NBC show "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" has been picked up for the entire season.

There had been pretty serious rumors that NBC was going to give the series the axe for failing to pull the viewers NBC was hoping for.

PCMacAd.jpgApple Dumps Justin Long "The Mac Guy"

The "I'm a Mac" campaign isn't over, we're going to see more of the commercials from Apple humorously highlighting the differences (and similarities) between Macs and PCs.  It is however over for Justin Long, the 'Mac Guy' in those commercials.  It seems Justin's been dropped from the campaign.  Update below the fold. WorriedApple1.gifMicrosoft beats Apple to the TV with Xbox Live Video

Apple Computer and its CEO Steve Jobs are known for pre-emptive product launches.  In a somewhat shocking reversal, Microsoft today "pulled an Apple" on Apple by announcing deals with CBS MTV, Warner Bros, Turner Broadcasting and Paramount Pictures to sell downloadable video content from these networks and studios to the XBox Live platform.  Basically, the new service takes the XBox 360 platform and turns it into a fully functioning media device to compete with Apples as yet unseen iTV product.  Read on, folks, it's going to get interesting….

DRM is bad, m’kay?

Posted by: Brian — October 3, 2006 at 6:10 pm

Defective By Design - magentaOne of the things I try to do here in my little corner of the net is to educate. There are issues out there that get very little attention in the normal world press, and those issues are really very important to all of us. Decisions on issues like net neutrality, freedom of information exchange, copyright and IP law will set precedent now and shape the future of the entire world. October 3rd is the International Day Against DRM which makes this a great time to explain why DRM, something that seems so helpful and benign, is actually capable of eroding the very fabric of freedom. You think that was a little extreme? Read on… (more…)

The Fall TV Schedule

Posted by: Brian — September 6, 2006 at 6:00 am

Ah, Autumn. The leaves turn, the air cools, and young men’s thoughts turn to Football and TV schedules. With the welcome shift recently of cable networks airing first-run shows during the traditional networks summer hiatus, the launch of the fall premieres isn’t the event it once was. And while I’ve been fairly happy with the summer offerings (like Rescue Me, The 4400,Treasure Hunters, Monk and Psych) some have left me a little unfulfilled (Kyle XY). — Hmmm… Summer Season Wrap Up sounds like it might be a good blog post. — Anyway, I’m looking forward to the launch of the new Fall Season and several shows in particular, here’s what will be on my TV, computer screen, video iPod and Orb stream this fall. If you ask nicely, Pamma just might be convinced to talk about her Fall watch list and explain her devotion to Ty Penningtion, Mark Harmon, Hugh Laurie, and (of all people) Anderson Cooper.
