I’m a bad blogger

Link to Awaken the Dawn : Awaken the Dawn

I’ve been really remiss in posting.  Sorry about that.  I’ve been exceptionally busy with audio production for Awaken the Dawn (see link above).

I’ll get back soon.  Promise.

Meanwhile: check out Zillow.com.  Housing prices are wacky.

Dress Up Games

Alright, recently we launched theCaffeinated (our discussion forums) and some of you who've been there have been wondering about avatars (those little pictures to the left of our posts.) Have no fear, TheDollPlace.com is here with the DollMaker. (more…)

Welcome to the Caffeinated…

Posted by: Brian — January 24, 2007 at 10:33 pm

The more observant of you will have noticed a new tab in the site menu of late.  the Caffeinated at BrianAndPamela is the latest addition to the site.  At the most basic level, it's web forums for y'all to interact with us and with one another.  What else can it be?  Well, it could be a brooch or a hat or a pterodactyl… sorry, I was channeling Airplane.  It can be what ever your little heart desires.  Just a place to chit chat, ask us questions, and contribute your two cents.  You will need to register to post… sorry about that, but as an incentive there are special members only topic areas available!  (There are also private areas for friends and family, so if you register with a weird screen name that I won't recognize, make sure you tell us who you are.)

Cross your fingers…

Posted by: Brian — January 16, 2007 at 11:15 am

I'm about to back up and upgrade the blog software.  Wish me luck.  There may be some instability, reduced functionality or even complete failure as this happens.  We'll be back as quick as we can.

UPDATE:  Well, looks like it's all working.  Please let me know if you find any problems.

Web 2.0 logo redesign

Posted by: Brian — January 13, 2007 at 3:37 pm

One of the things that differentiates many Web 2.0 sites from the "old guard" companies is their logos.  Rounder, softer, shinier, these are the marks of a Web 2.0 logo.  So here's an image that wonders, "What if the same design principles were used for logos we're all familiar with from the non-web world?"

I especially like AT&T (subtle enhancements), The USA, 3M (mmm!), Quaker (awesome!), and UPS (beta! rofl)

Social Search, thy name is Sproose

Sproose home page

What do you get when you combine Digg.com, Del.icio.us, and Google? Sproose.com, as it turns out.

Sproose.com (currently in beta) combines the searches one expects from Yahoo! or Google with tagging and social voting. The theory is that the more who people "vote" for a site, the more likely the site is to be the result you were looking for. As Sproose gets up and running, it could be exactly that.

Ask Brian: What’s "Ask Brian"?

Posted by: Brian — December 26, 2006 at 6:32 pm

I admit it… I am a well of useless information.

Because of that I'm often answering questions. Sometimes, that's because someone sought my advice or knowledge of something. Often, it's because I have a pathological need to explain things.  More after the jump. (more…)

Merry Christmas!

Posted by: Brian — December 25, 2006 at 10:18 am

Yes, I'm that much of a geek… pausing amidst the children opening gifts and the other traditions of the day to blog our best wishes and blessings for you and yours.  Merry Christmas, and a very happy New Year.

I'll go back to being cynical later today (and boy am I working on a doozy) but right now, I'm adequately sedated by the armo of little smokies and crescent rolls.

Pay Per Post

Posted by: Brian — December 21, 2006 at 3:06 pm

Over the next few months you might notice a new category to some posts.  The category is Pay Per Post and essentially, it seems like a pretty good idea.  More about this…after the jump. (more…)

Minor site tweaks

Posted by: Brian — December 19, 2006 at 2:44 am

So, in addition to the permalinks, I spent some time tonight working the CSS and design of the site.  I found a nice little javascript so that even those of you using Internet Explorer (and shame on you) can see the design as it's intended.

I also added a nice shading to the sidebar and gave it and the footer the pretty rounded corners that the featured section has.  Lastly, I've added a date badge to the featured post for interest.

All of which raises the question, how much do you have to modify code (in this case the site theme) before it's no longer really attributable to the original designer?  That's a really good question… hmmm, I smell another blog post… but it's twenty to one and I'm sleepy so it will have to wait.  G'night.

Hope y'all like it.
